Astrocartography Case Study: Depressing Saturn Lines

Astrocartography offers a unique lens through which we can understand the impact of different locations on our lives. Read more to discover what happened when a client living on a difficult Saturn IC line got an astrocartography reading to decide where to relocate.

The Challenge: Saturn's Heavy Influence in Chicago

Earlier this month, a new client (let’s call her Kelly) came to me for her first astrocartography reading. She had been feeling increasingly isolated in Chicago over the years, and was ready to explore locations that would be more supportive for her spiritual, financial, and relationship growth.

Together, we identified her top three cities of interest (this is my reading process with every client), and we compared each one against her current location.

At first glance of her astromap, I was immediately drawn to the Saturn AS line about 300 miles east of her hometown (read this blog post for basic line interpretations). Saturn is a notoriously difficult planet, all about discipline, responsibility, and restriction. Living with even 600 miles of one can feel lonely and honestly…boring as hell. As a night chart, Saturn is also her most malefic (read: harmful) planet, amplifying the difficulty of the experience. When I explained this energy to her, it was immediately confirmed by her experience of failing relationships, employment barriers, and mental health struggles.

Aside from Saturn, Kelly also had a Jupiter DS line and Moon/Neptune paran in close radius. Jupiter is a benefic (read: supportive) planet, representing growth, prosperity, and opportunities. In Kelly’s birth chart, however, Jupiter had some challenging aspects and a less than ideal house placement. We identified that this energy was manifesting through 1) her tendency to attract dead-end opportunities, and 2) her small circle of supportive friends. Pairing the frustrating energy of said astrocartography lines with the extremely sensitive and escapism-prone Moon/Neptune paran line, it was no wonder she was ready to leave Chicago on the next thing smoking!

I use Solar Fire software for readings because it offers far more tools and accuracy, but it looks less appealing in blog posts lol. Here, parans are represented by horizontal yellow lines. Just north of Chicago is Kelly's Moon/Neptune crossing.

The Potential: A New Beginning in Barcelona

Of the three locations of interest, Barcelona was at the top of Kelly’s list. She had always felt drawn to the city, and started researching to mentally prepare for the opportunity to call it home. Upon examining her astrocartography lines in the area, the puzzle pieces of her story fell into alignment beautifully. Here, her Jupiter IC (imum coeli), North Node DS (descendant), and Mars MC (midheaven) were all in a 300 mile radius - a cosmic combination full of promise!

Barcelona lines were far more supportive for Kelly's intentions

For sake of time (honestly I’m surprised if you even made it this far), I’ll give a quick rundown on how I interpreted each line in her astrocartography reading:

Jupiter IC: As previously mentioned, Jupiter is known for its beneficial influence. But in Chicago, Kelly’s birth chart placements dampened the planet’s benevolent potential. In Barcelona, the relocated chart creates new dynamics between the planets, resulting in far less challenging aspects for Jupiter. Now in passionate Leo, the Jupiter IC line enhances her abundance in home life, security, and emotional wellbeing.

North Node DS: The North Node represents one’s greater life path and karmic direction. Kelly’s North Node DS line (7th house) suggests that Barcelona is a place where she makes profound, meaningful relationships. This could come in the form of friendships, partnerships, or romances that propel her soul's growth forward. How’s that for a reversing stagnation?!

Mars MC: Mars on the Midheaven indicates that Barcelona is an area of assertion, ambition, and career success. The 9th house relocation also suggests that she sees more success than before by living internationally. The energetic, pioneering influence of Mars activates passion and drive, something that Kelly desparately needed.

The Outcome: Intuitive Confirmation

After her reading, Kelly was far more confident in her decision to relocate to Barcelona. Even knowing that it wouldn’t be easy (uprooting your life never is), astrocartography confirmed that her intuition was guiding her in the right direction. She was amazed at how specifically the city aligned with her present intentions and needs. Now all she needed to do was start preparing to make the final leap!

In the meantime, I told her about remote activation - ways to tap into an astrocartography line without having to travel directly to it. I could spend more time explaining these techniques, but why don’t you booking a reading if you’re curious :)
